Weekends are busy, but it’s Monday nights that really set Pedra do Sal on fire. When the clock strikes 8 pm, the roda de samba comes to life, and, by 10 pm, the streets are full.
7. Rodas de Samba
Samba isn’t just music in Rio; it’s the heartbeat of our city. Every day of the week you can find a place or a “roda de samba”, as we call it, to enjoy a good samba.
Picture this: musicians sitting around a table, forming a circle, while we, the audience, gather around, singing, clapping and dancing to the rhythm. This is what we call a “roda de samba” and I can assure you that the atmosphere exudes one of the best energies!
These rodas de samba take place everywhere, from indoor to outdoor venues, welcoming everyone with open arms. And the best part? Entry is usually free or very cheap, so you can immerse yourself in the exciting sounds of samba without spending too much.

Stepping into the Feira de São Cristóvão is like taking a quick trip to the Northeast of Brazil right here in Rio de Janeiro. It’s like a mini cultural getaway, housed in a huge pavilion filled with the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Northeast.
As you wander around the stalls, you’ll discover the delights of Northeastern food and handmade souvenirs. It’s a fantastic opportunity to soak up the culture of the region, even if you’re not planning a trip there.
As the evening draws in, the place comes alive with shows of northeastern rhythms such as forró, xote, baião, and xaxado. But for me the real attraction of the evening is getting together with friends to sing in the karaoke bars.
Tip from your Brazilian friend: make sure you have cash on hand to buy your ticket, as they don’t accept cards at the door.
9. Mureta da Urca

Mureta da Urca is one of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic postcards. It’s an incredible place to relax and soak up the breathtaking views of Guanabara Bay while enjoying a refreshing beer.
Visiting the Mureta da Urca becomes even more special at sunset when the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant tones. During the evening, locals and visitors gather along the wall to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a quieter, more natural experience, watching the sunset from Sugarloaf Mountain is a great option.
From the top, you’ll have a panoramic view of the Rio de Janeiro skyline. For me, the most beautiful part is watching the golden light that is cast over the city as the lights get brighter with the passing hours.
You can buy your tickets for the cable car in advance or buy them when you arrive. If you want to avoid the queues, you can buy them here on the official Pão de Açúcar website.
The basic ticket includes a return trip on the cable cars. You can also opt for a fast-track ticket with immediate boarding.

With just a few tables, Bip Bip has an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Every night, talented musicians come together to play different rhythms of Brazilian music.
There’s no applause or noisy chatter here; just the soft melodies of live music floating through the air, creating a sense of harmony and tranquillity. All to ensure the well-being of the neighborhood.
The musicians are not hired; they are passionate individuals who simply bring their instruments and join in the communal celebration of art and culture. The result is a magical experience that captivates all who visit.
Stopping by Bip Bip will be an experience that will remain in your memory long after the music has faded. I can guarantee it.
13. Dinner on Copacabana Beach
When night falls on Copacabana Beach, its waterfront is still full of life with the restaurants and bars along its promenade. We call the restaurants that face the beach “quiosques” (kiosks) and they are a good option for dining if you are looking for a more laid-back spot.
On the beach, you’ll find more than 30 kiosk options to choose from. Each one offers its own unique flavors and ambience and you’re sure to find the perfect place to satisfy your cravings.
One kiosk I recommend is the Tatuí Praia kiosk, where the relaxed atmosphere and mouth-watering dishes create the perfect setting for a memorable evening. From seafood to traditional Brazilian dishes, there’s something to please every palate.
14. Night Street Market at Copacabana Beach
The Copacabana Night Market is an excellent option for browsing local handicrafts and Rio-themed souvenirs. The market stretches along Avenida Atlântica and is open every day from 6pm to midnight.
This bustling market has more than 150 stalls, each offering a variety of products. From captivating works of art to trendy finds, there is something for everyone at the fair.
The market is right on Copacabana Beach and is the perfect place to enjoy the evening vibe with the ocean as a backdrop.

15. Samba dos Guimarães
Samba dos Guimarães is one of Rio de Janeiro’s traditional rodas de samba (samba circles). The event takes place every Saturday at the Mercado das Pulgas in Santa Teresa.
As well as captivating samba performances, the event also features DJs who often play the famous Brazilian funk, guaranteeing an unforgettable evening full of rhythm and soul.
To join in the fun, tickets are a must and can be bought in advance or at the door, starting at R$25,00.
